WHY WE SHOULD DRESS FOR EVERY OCCASION

I thought it would be fun to start my fashion blog with the reason why I am so engrossed with fashion, with style and with dressing up. But before I start, I want to make things clear, these are my own personal opinion and only my own. As individuals, we may have different take on how and why we do things, how we dress up and why we dress in such a way, so this blog will be about my style. I would like to share it to all of you, with a hope that I can be of help to you in creating your own style. If you have a different style or a different set of fashion rules that you may follow, please do share them, I would love to learn from you as well!

I love the art of dressing up and to mix and match clothes because I grew up not being able to buy clothes as much as I wanted or even needed at some point. Clothes can be expensive, and having a tight budget and other priorities, I had to make my my clothes work for me. I do not consider myself as someone with the most fashion forward style, but I do have a style that is usually complimented by many. While a lot of people would say that it is easy to style when you have the money to buy clothes for every occasion, or if you've hoarded so much and you have everything for any occasion. This was not the case in my fashion journey, although it would have been a lot easier if I was rich, but then I would not have learned so much about fashion. Because of the limitations I encountered, I learned to create styles even with just a few basic items in my wardrobe. And mind you, these are not signature or branded items, I would shop literally anywhere so long as it fits my style. While others splurge on a clothing budget to get in style, I spend my time learning the style and making it work. I do not go out running after the latest fashion trend, I usually just look at my closet, maybe check out some fashion inspiration and then create my own.

I do not dress up a lot. I am most comfortable wearing a denim shorts, spaghetti straps and my Sanuk. (I know, its just like I'm at home all the time.) However, there are occasions and places that it would be necessary to dress up, I cannot go to the office in shorts right? Therefore, we have to dress the occasion.

I'm sure we all want to dress up with the most fitting clothes for every occasion, we don't want to be feeling out of place. But most of the time, we don't have enough clothes or shoes to fit each and every place or event we go to. So we just have to make the most of what we have.

I have experienced this myself, When I first enrolled for Law school. Back I was a Customer Care Representative, we did not have uniforms at work and would usually wear casual clothes. However, in law school you are required to wear business attire or coporate. It was a dillema since I did not have any and I had no money to buy immediately. So I started rummaging all the clothes in my closet, and what do you know, I do have clothes that would work as business attire. Although they were not bought to be business attire, with just a few tweeks they could work just the same. In most cases we have everything we need to dress up for anything, just don't know how to make the most of them. And this is the exact reason why I created SIMPLY|HONEY. To make the most of what you already have, and add to them without spending to much. Dressing up does not need to be expensive, it just has to be smart.

I have read in a book of Tim Gunn, that how you dress determine how people perceive you. I would have to agree with him on this. I always hate it when I walk in a high end shop on my comfy clothes, no one even talks to me. But if I go in the same shop, all dolled up, I will be welcomed and offered options by the sales ladies. Whether we like it or not, the way we dress is the impression we give to the world, unless we actually talk to a specific person and get comfortable with them or when they get to know us better, do they really know who we really are. But before then, our appearance will be doing ll the taking for us, so we should dress up according to how we want people to see us. You can decide to dress up in pajamas the whole day, but don't wonder if they think you're always in bed or wear a summer dress to the office and they would think you're off to an outing. How we dress up is the language that speaks before our mouths do the actual talking. So dress up well, dress the occasion.

I hope my blog is of help to you in your fashion journey. I am here to share everything I learned and still learning about fashion and style. Keep in mind that fashion doesn't have to be expensive, you just have to be smart about it. I know that there are a lot of blogs out there, but when it comes to affordable fashion, only a few are to be found. SO here I am! Simply Honey.

What occasions do you usually have a hard time dressing up? Any upcoming events we can help you with? Share it with me! i'd love to her from you.
